The reason for the strikes is the loss of purchasing power of their salaries, all this happens in full negotiations with the Executive of Javier Milei for the budgets awarded.

On Tuesday, Argentina’s university unions began the first of two days of student strike in public centers across the country.

The reason for the strikes is the loss of purchasing power of their salaries, all this happens in full negotiations with the Executive of Javier Milei for the budgets awarded.

The teachers of the universities mobilized in the noon hours in front of the headquarters of the Congress of Argentina, where the deputies of the South American country debated several proposals around the university budgets.

“For education and public university,” demanded those who protested, convened by the National Federation of University Teachers, Researchers and Creators (Conadu) and the Central de Trabajadores de la Argentina (CTA).

There were also mass protests at university campuses such as the University of Buenos Aires, the most prestigious university in the country.

Teachers and students demand “more budget for universities” and immediate restitution of the National Teaching Incentive Fund (Fonid), one of their most repeated requests in recent weeks.

Universities have been a fundamental actor in the citizen’s opposition to the policies of severe economic adjustment of the government of the ultra-liberal Milei, who assumed the presidency of Argentina on December 10.
